ARC Energy’s Controlled Heat Extraction System (CHES) Furnaces are innovative crystal growth furnaces used to produce c-axis sapphire boules. Cores from these crystal are turned into LED wafers, and finally into the High Brightness (HB) and Ultra-High Brightness (UHB) LED chips that are used in LED backlighting, solid-state lighting, and automotive and signage applications.

Customers worldwide are operating ARC Energy’s CHES Furnaces for mass production of larger diameter sapphire.

Unlike other existing technologies, our CHES technology was developed specifically for LED application.

CHES technology advantages include:

  • C-axis CHES growth technology
    • Uniform properties within sapphire wafer
    • 2-3 times better material utilization
    • Lower waste and recycling costs
  • High quality for LED applications
  • Near-net shape boules (6”, 8” and 10”) that enable semiconductor scale production
  • Multiple cores from large boules (2”, 4”) at uniform lengths
  • Highly automated; the process is built into the system instead of the operator
  • Lowest total cost of ownership reduce sapphire production costs

Our furnaces are also capable of growing sapphire material on a-axis, m-axis, and r-axis for other applications.
